Admission
and Application Procedure for International Students
Candidates must have completed at least two years of higher
studies in their home university.
Every European university functions on a credit system known
as the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Within the
framework of the ECTS system, international students wishing
to study
at INPL must contact their academic advisor or the study
abroad office at their home university. The advisor will
present to
the student some information records and syllabuses prepared
by the schools. Both the student and the advisor can select
courses that, through their content and academic level, will
be recognized by their university and taken into account
in obtaining the final diploma.
ECTS credits represent the volume of work that the student
must hand in for each course module. They express the quantity
of work that each unit of the course requires with respect
to the global volume of work necessary to successfully complete
a year in the institution. A total of 60 credits represent
the volume of work for a year of studies, 30 credits a semester,
and 20 credits a term.
Each semester has a total of about 15 weeks inclusive of
a general duration of 25 hrs of classes per week (lectures,
workshops
and labs). 1 ECTS credit is equivalent to approximately 15
hours class.
However it should be noted that exchange students can be
offered a free choice of the selection of classes they wish
to attend,
on the basis of their major, within each school syllabus
provided that these arrangements have been previously worked
out with
their advisors.
The ECTS system guarantees students recognition of their
period of study abroad, based on the transfer of credits
granted and
validation by the exchange of grade sheets between the university
of origin and the host university.
A learning agreement (model
in appendix) describing the courses
that you intend to follow, signed by your academic advisor
and yourself, must be sent to the head of international relations
at the school in question, along with the candidate application
form (model in appendix), before 15 May of the year preceding
the stay.
The student should also attach a transcript of records. This
transcript of records signed by the student's university
of origin should contain all the information on previous
studies
that the student has completed. At the end of the period
of studies at INPL, a transcript of records containing the
results
of each course taken will be forwarded to the university
of origin and will ensure the recognition of the student's
study
period at INPL.
Students seeking an engineering degree from INPL schools
must follow and pass a minimum of three semesters at the
School.
90 ECTS credits out of the 180 corresponding to the three
years are required in order to obtain the diploma.
As all the courses take place in French, a sound understanding
of the French language is essential.
Advanced French classes are given at the INPL linguistic
training centre (CAFOL).
A self-assimilation French language training facility is
provided by the Pôle Universitaire Européen
in the center of Nancy.
Admission of Erasmus students :
Candidates must have completed at least two years of higher
studies in their home university.
Within the framework of the ECTS system introduced into INPL,
students wishing to study at INPL must contact their departmental
co-ordinator. The latter will make available information dossiers
and syllabuses prepared by the schools. They can select courses
that, through their content and academic level, will be recognised
by their university and taken into account in obtaining the
final diploma.
The ECTS credits
The "ECTS" credits represent the volume of work that
the student must hand in for each course module. They express
the quantity of work that each unit of the course requires
with respect to the global volume of work necessary to successfully
complete a year in the establishment. 60 credits represent
the volume of work for a year of studies, 30 credits a semester,
and 20 credits a term. The ECTS system guarantees students
the recognition of their period of study abroad, on account
of the transfer of credits granted and validated by the exchange
of mark sheets between the university of origin and the host
university.
A learning agreement (model in
appendix) describing the courses
that you intend to follow, signed by your departmental co-ordinator
and yourself, must be sent to the Socrates Co-ordinator at
the school in question, along with the candidate application
form (model
in appendix) and a resume before the following
deadlines
You should also attach a transcript of records (model in appendix).
This transcript of records signed by your university of origin,
contains all the information on the previous studies that you
have completed. At the end of your period of studies at INPL,
a transcript of records containing your results for each course
followed will be forwarded to your university of origin, and
will ensure the recognition of your study period at INPL.
Registration formalities for Erasmus students
Erasmus students must register and settle the registration
fees at their home university.
The registry office of INPL looks after the registration
of students at INPL. The dossier that you receive on your
arrival
at INPL should be filled in and accompanied by the following
documents :
A student’s card will be issued to you. This gives access
to the university libraries, the sports facilities, and the
other advantages offered to students. This card will also allow
