Water Resource and Pollution Management
Protecting and managing our natural environment are major
challenges for our society. The Nancy engineering geologists
work at an international level on the following issues :
• Finding and managing water resources
• Hydrologic systems
• Protection of water tables
• Storage
• Reclamation and rehabilitation of industrial and mining sites and of
contaminated land
Natural Resources
Our engineering geologists are involved worldwide in the
exploration for and exploitation of raw materials such as
oil, gas, ore deposits, industrial minerals…
Graduates are at the forefront in the following fields :
• Reservoir engineering
• Processing of raw materials
• Recycling and waste management
• Strategic management of raw materials
Geotechnical Engineering
The rol of the engineering geologist is crucial in the planning
and execution of major building projects :
• Dam and tunnel costructions
• Highway foundations
• Industrial and natural hazards
• Mine subsidence, landslides
Numerical Modelling in Geosciences
The Nancy School of Geology has become one of the major centers
of the three dimensional numerical modelling in Earth Sciences.
The GOCAD software developed in Nancy is widely used in the
hydrocarbon and mining industries. Graduates who specialise
in numerical modelling find careers in :
• 3 D modelling of the geometry and formation of ore bodies and oil/gas
reservoirs
• Predicting the movement of water and pollutants in natural habitats
